5.0 out of 5 starsEmotional Rejuvenation

By

Shawn M. Edmiston "Willowston" (Cullman, AL USA)

Right from the very beginning of Brush Strokes Mr. Horn provides vivid descriptions that place you into the story. From the landscapes to characters, you are able to visualize clearly what is seen from the main character's point of view. He leaves no sense to the imagination as smells and feelings sink into your soul. In the flashback to Vancouver as recalled by the main character, Tylowe Dandridge, you are pulled in feeling the love and then heartbreak that frames the present day story. Mr. Horn skillfully takes the reader from the incident in the past into the present where we find Mr. Dandrige successful in all aspects of his life except for love. It seems he had never quite opened himself up again since the woman he loved had broken his heart and his trust 12 years earlier. The story picks up as he returns to Vancouver where he finds truth in more than one respect. As the characters Tylowe and Meeah fall in love you are there in it, falling in love with them.

This book is enjoyable as we also get a sample of the author's wonderful poetic gifts throughout, as well as his sensuous passages that cocoon the reader in the moment. The action of the book really picks up at the climax when Tylowe finds that his past has suddenly converged with his present situation and that he must confront aspects of the past that seem unpleasant, but yield a happily ever after that is a definate surprise and worth waiting the whole book to get to! I credit Brush Strokes with a much needed emotional and sensual rejuvenation and can guarantee that to any reader.

5.0 out of 5 starsTOTALLY SEXY and then some!

By

S. Benford "Bosslady1221"

I really enjoyed reading Brush Strokes. This book is must read for all who like erotica! The imagery is fantastic and made me want to hop a plane to Vancouver B.C. and ride through the streets on a Ducati. The main character Tylowe is a man's man but I love the way he thinks...if only he was real(LOL)!

The book has some twists and turns that will keep in involved and turning the pages right till the very end, but the best part for me were the poems. They were sexy, sultry, thought provoking, moving, promising, and inspiring. I only wish I could write that well.

Shouts out to Alvin Lloyd Alexander Horn for a great book, I'm sure he will bring the noise on his next book...I can't wait!

Mr. Horn is a very good writer. "Brush Strokes" came out banging and had you curious about what was to come. I fell in love with his character "Tylowe." Mr. Horn brought the characters to life, and had me trying to picture them in my mind. Although somewhere in the middle of the story, it kind of slowed down some, but he picked it back up having you on the edge of your seat to see how it would end. It was a very emotional and touching story. Most of us can relate to getting hurt and not wanting to deal with "love" again, but this story gives hope that even through the most hurt love affair you can find love again. I would definitely read more work from Alvin Horn. Keep at it and you'll get better and better and better.

4.0 out of 5 starsSEXY, SENSUAL

I absolutley loved this book!! It is a quick read, and leaves you wanting more. Often when I read novels by poets, it can get a bit much with the imagery etc, but this book manages to be simple, yet also combines it with his mastery of spoken word in a most appealing way. I fell in love with his characters, and the twist at the end made it that much better....cant wait till the next book!!!

4.0 out of 5 starsCan you say revenge?

By

Claudia Brown-Mosley "Author"

Alvin gives you a story of true love about a man name Tylowe that get hurt by a women that he knew for sure was his soulmate. Until he comes across a shocking episode where love fails him. Tylowe thought he would never love again until he goes on a modeling job. That's where he meets another lady that turns out to be the employer daughter. Meeah shows him that he can love again and all women is not the same.

The story starts off from the past and brings you to the future. The beginning starts off with a shocking bomb with a fast pace but in the middle the story lines slows down. But then it starts back up and ends with a bam! Over all for this to be the author first book I must say that he did a great job.

5.0 out of 5 starsWell Written First Novel,

By

Kevin Howard

For a first novel, I fount this book to be a sexy brew of narration. I found myself inside the mind of the main character, Tylowe, as if was seeing a movie, and the people were talking to me. It was compelling and I couldn't put it down. The book reads like Walter Mosley Eric Jerome Dickey collaboration. The write stayed crisp and concise and although not a long novel, it was a nice sexy ride.

Having been directed to the author's website, his style, smooth play on words, along with his interweaving of music into the background made for some intense drama, and intrigue. His use of sex was sexy and not overly graphic. The ending was climatic and kept me guessing until the end. Having a large reading circle, I'm recommending this book as our next read and have ordered a few more copies. This book will remain in my collection of books from up and coming Black American authors. Two thumbs up for his debut novel.

5.0 out of 5 starsWished I could have stayed on the journey

It just so happen I had ordered this book call Brush Strokes, just because of the cover art and the book profile on Amazon. At the same time, I bought Eric Benet's Hurricane CD. What a wonderful combination it turned out to be. This book has made my spirit believe in love again. The main theme of the book is a man compares his life to an unfinished masterpiece. You follow this guy named Tylowe, through the Northwest by train, and motorcycle. Many adjectives can be pinned to this book. Humorist, angry, extra sexy, no let change that to, EXTREMLY EROTIC, passionate, emotional, romantic. The use of music in the background was very nice. What kind of man writes that kind love letter/poetry? My girlfriends keep passing the book around. I want it back
