Lovers Day

Waiting

(a poem from Romantic Blues)
“I’ll wait, too… and dream of another time when my eyes will undress your eyes and leave you reaching for my embrace to cover you and comfort you. I’ll wait until a time I will be able to ease and erase all, if any, past troubles of your mind. I’ll wait until a time you and I can not avoid our hearts from beating together, dear lady, I’ll dream sweet dreams. Until our time, let it be known to you; you’re no fantasy to me and I’m not an image from your mind of a dream you want to come true. We are real breaths of air.”

Grits

Artwork: Grits- I saw love Copyright Monique Franklin

I saw love the other day
It was overflowing with taste
It was wholesome
It was creamy
It was buttery
It was sweet, with a twang of pepper
The love I saw, it was dark and simmered like red and black bean gumbo
I saw love the other day
As he held her hand and they walked in the sun,
their footprints left black berry stains
The visual was as strong as black coffee
But sweet as 4 teaspoons of brown sugar
What I saw, it made me hungry for love
I saw love the other day
The love I saw, was toast, browned and buttered on both sides
It was a tall drink of sunshine
It maple syrup thick, as they hugged tight
As they enjoyed the fruits of their love, the whole world was their patio
I saw love the other day
She placed her hands on his chest, and he kissed her on her lips
She looked at him as if he was a big spoon
And he was about to stir the grits in her pot
She had what he needed, to bring him to the table
I saw love the other day
As they laughed together, their souls became nourished
You could tell,
I saw love the other day
There was no doubt she cooked his steak well done
And he loved her gravy, and the lumps in her potatoes
They kissed again,
and there tongues crumble together like grandma's cornbread
They were a full plate of love
Freshness from the garden of a hot house
Seasoned and spicy, mixed just right
The sun dried them, and flavored from the ground up
They looked happy
as if they had just came from the kitchen with full bellies
They stepped like the were headed back for another big bowel of grits
that needed to be stirred, and consumed
I saw love the other day
Damn I’m hungry for love
